Ministry Background

In the 60’s “Greater Europe Mission” (GEM), began searching for a site from which they could reach youth in France’s northern industrial sector. A run-down house was found below an Alpine village in La Rivoire, above Bourg d’Oisans. The first camp was held in this house without running water, in 1967.  In 1969 buildings belonging to the Oddoux brothers in the Rivoire village became available and the purchase of the Camp Des Cimes buildings was finalized. Young Christians from across Europe— but mostly from France and the United States— came together the first summers to restore the old village in which some buildings were over 200 years old. Hard-working and ambitious, these young adults’ only shelter was a barn which had neither electricity nor running water. They slept in the hay. Previously, this barn had been a farmhouse, a bakery, and even a small school. In 1984, construction of a new building (The Big Chalet) was begun. It took 14 years of hard labor, a lot of energy, and numerous skilled American workers who came to support the regional team.

Camp of the Peaks seeks to be a refuge where God can recharge, encourage, and save everyone. Through the friendly environment and the shared camp experiences, they share their lives, demonstrating what life can be when permeated with Biblical truth and the person of Christ.

Description of Project

The recent completion of the upper level of the Lodge is lacking in the handicap access required to provide complete use of this floor.  There are plans to extend the east side of the building to house an elevator and storage/changing rooms.  This project will include remodeling 2 bedrooms and a bathroom to make them handicapped accessible.

Workers Needed

The camp needs individuals who can come on organized work teams to work in the following areas: Carpentry/Framing, Electrical, Finish Work, Landscaping, Plumbing and Heating, Renovation, Masonry [Brick Work], Window/Door Installation, and Roofing

The Oct 27 – Nov 7, 2012 trip is a combined construction + service team to help facilitate a conference (child care is needed).
