Holsby Bible School & Retreat Center, founded in 1973, is part of a worldwide network of Bible schools and conference centers affiliated with the interdenominational ministry of Torchbearers International. The aim of the Torchbearers is to proclaim the transforming presence of Jesus Christ through biblical teaching and practical training.
The facilities have a long history as the first buildings in this location were constructed in 1797 as a “health spa” to provide fresh water, recreation, and rest. A resident chaplain and doctor were there to provide spiritual and physical attention to the guests. In 1944 refugees from areas around the Baltic Sea found Holsbybrunn to be a “city of refuge”. In 1966, Holsby opened year-round as a hotel. In the early 1970s the owner was considering closing the facility at this time the Lord let the Torchbearers to purchase the site.
The former owner, Hans Hanson, once said, “A hundred years ago, guests came by horses and later by train. Nowadays young people come by plane and fly across oceans to a small, beautiful place called Holsby. They do not come so much for physical healing, but to seek inner strength for their lives. My grandfather, Johan Rudin, took over Holsby in 1883, and before that attended a Bible school. He would have greeted today’s guests with joy!”
Description of Project
The projects here at Holsby are mainly renovation and repairs needing carpentry work, electrical, painting (inside and outside), flooring, plumbing, etc. They are looking at finishing two buildings that have stood empty for years. Plans are for making one of them a dual-purpose building: the bottom floor for student and camper activities (game room, hang out area, etc.) and the upper floor an apartment for single male staff. The other building is needed as staff housing, probably for a family. They are both huge projects, because they are basically empty shells and need plumbing, electric and everything else.

Workers are needed in the area of: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, tiling, finish work, drywall, and general labor.
