Ministry Background
In the 1970′s, a group of Baptist churches in the Toulon/Marseilles area of France started a camping ministry, to minister to the many urban kids in the area. They began by renting facilities in the French Riviera, and were later able to purchase a 20-acre property (formerly owned by a professional soccer team).
The property was originally a hotel (built just before WWI), used by pilgrims visiting a local shrine. With its rugged mountain setting, sports facilities and rural location, it provides a great get away for the youth in the southern France region. This area is the principle entrance for Northern Africans into France. During the summer, the staff at the camp prepare two menus, one for the “Christian” kids, and a kosher meal for the “Muslim” kids. Many of the kids that attend camp are non-religious, and the program is set up to introduce them to Jesus Christ.
euroteam has been sending teams there since 1998, and has developed a wonderful relationship with the local church and the camp leadership.
Description of Project
The entire property needs a major overhaul. The existing buildings require remodeling in perhaps half the rooms (insulation, wallpapering, painting, new fixtures). The recently expanded attic needs finishing out, and the dining hall area needs a new roof. An exterior stairwell needs to be built to access the attic.
- Lower Building – Addition of a staircase on the outside to meet fire code.
- Main Building – Remove/replace stairs and add additional flight to attic.
- Basement – Make entrance larger and increase the height of room
- Near football (soccer) pitch – Stadium Terrace/Retention Wall
- Main Building – Shower for disabled
Each spring, a team is needed to clean up after the winter, and prepare the grounds for the summer camping season (there is no on-site staff).
Workers Needed
Weather you have helping hands or professional skills, they are welcome! Workers are needed in the areas of Carpentry, masonry, cement, tiling, plastering, structural work, finish work, heavy equipment, garage door, and general labor.
